Divemaster Course

The PADI Divemaster rating denotes an individual who has exemplary diving skills and role model behaviour, solid rescue skills, professional knowledge of dive theory, dive management and supervision abilities, and competence as an Instructor’s assistant.

The course is very intensive but can be run on a very flexible schedule tailored to how much time you can devote to the course.

The PADI Divemaster Course is made up of knowledge development and theory presentations, confined pool sessions, stamina exercises and open water dives as part of an internship.

Gain practical experience giving dive briefings, assisting with classes and leading underwater tours. Learn how to anticipate problems and provide assistance, create an Emergency Assistance Plan and improve your navigation and problem-solving skills through practical workshops

Course Summary

The path to becoming a PADI Divemaster consists of three steps:

  1.  Knowledge development consists of 12 topics and is based on independent study using a wide range of materials. Home study is the key with theory presentations to ensure mastery.
  2. Skill development and assessment is built in confined water and you be required to demonstrate the core twenty PADI Open Water skills to your mentor Instructor and scored against demonstration criteria. Your rescue skills will be developed to demonstration level and assessed. PADI Divemasters are expected to maintain the valuable skills that they learnt during their rescue training and to be able to demonstrate these skills.
  3. Stamina assessments are in the form of timed swims:

  • 400m swim
  • 800m snorkel & fin swim
  • 100m tired diver tow
  • 15-minute tread water

Open Water Dives
